Guenon's Reign of Quantity and the Sign of the Times did the same for me. Made me realize that there is a metaphysical reality only from which man can derive higher truths. A good book that had a big impact on the way I understood the world is pic related. Highly recommended, but it's a time investment.

I was one of the nu-pol people who took the reading list seriously and as a result I abandoned the forum because it's saturated by brainlets who didn't and therefore couldn't have any higher level discussions. I wish I would have been around for old-pol, I find myself wanting for a forum where serious political discussions and analyses of current events can be had. Unfortunately nu-pol has become nu-chan, where I find the quality of comments to be dismal even on this board.

Reading this right now. As the title suggests, it delves into how our passions can destroy us. Also gets into how the French Revolution destroyed Europe and how Jews use sexual liberalism, as a tactic to destabilize morality among the western world. As a revenge for the discrimination they faced in the past. Then it goes into how psychology and psychology is field that is bullshit. Since you're just admonishing your sins to someone who will give it. It also promotes an anti-nihilist philosophy. I like this book.

A man was not a slave by nature or by law, as Aristotle claimed. His freedom was a function of his moral state. A man had as many masters as he had vices. This insight would provide the basis for the most sophisticated form of social control known to man.
Fourteen hundred years later, in a world eager to reject the intellectual patrimony of the West, a decadent French aristocrat turned that tradition on its head when he wrote that "the freest of people are they who are most friendly to murder". Like St. Augustine, the Marquis de Sade would agree that freedom was a function of morals. Freedom for the Marquis de Sade, however, meant willingness to reject the moral law. Unlike St. Augustine, the Marquis de Sade proposed a revolution in sexual morals to accompany the political revolution then taking place in France. Libido Dominandi -- the term is taken from Book I of Augustine's City of God -- is the definitive history of that sexual revolution, from 1773 to the present.

This book is about the converse of that statement. It explains how the rhetoric of sexual freedom was used to engineer a system of covert political and social control. Over the course of the two-hundred-year span covered by this book, the development of technologies of communication, reproduction, and psychic control -- including psychotherapy, behaviorism, advertising, sensitivity training, pornography, and, when push came to shove, plain old blackmail -- allowed the Enlightenment and its heirs to turn Augustine's insight on its head and create masters out of men's vices. Libido Dominandi is the story of how that happened.
