Hey /lit/, I know it's summer, but maybe there are some real boys on here even now.

QUESTION: if I want to get published, do I refrain from present tense narration in my first novel? Is it one of the things that editors hate in new authors? Or has it become commonplace enough?

I could only think of Aqualung while reading most of that book.

>No seriously, if you're not getting an english degree you are free to interpret a novel however you want.

OP here. That's fine and I agree, but I like to read other people's opinions too.

I want to hear from you guys: what do you do with all that knowledge you've gained from reading?

The way I see it, reading is quite simply useless. That is, unless you're absolutely fine with the self-satisfaction that comes with it. How do you apply it in a useful way?

Writing is the obvious one. But what? Essays? Fictions? Articles? Do some of you read and not write at all? Is this possible?

If I wrote novels I would probably give one a title that in no way ties to the story just to see what people would pull out of their ass when asked "Why is it called _________?"

So /lit/, I come to you with an interesting topic for discussion: my girl told me last night that she fantasizes about sucking my dick while I sit in my library and read a book (pic not entirely unrelated). I told her we could make that happen and now the date is set for Saturday.

What book should I read?

(I've considered Little Birds by Anais Nin and Lolita by Nabokov but I haven't settled on anything)

Best place to get free audiobooks? I can't torrent right now. Just looking for stuff I can put on my ipod, mainly classics. I was specifically looking for To Kill A Mockingbird.

So, I assume at least a few /lit/-goers are still in college, so what are you reading for class, and how do you like it?

I just finished Babbitt by Sinclair Lewis for my American Novel class. It was pretty darn insightful for what it's worth! Got me to thinking about a few un-straightened priorities in my own life.
