Build up a portfolio of independent work like I did for a year.

I mainly covered happenings around town, both small, like a dispute between neighbors over garbage bins, and large events, like Trump visiting and the riots that ensued. I had around a hundred articles published on my own website complete with photos by the end of the year-long stint, and I even had a few dozen articles taken up by small newspapers too. I'm about to try to use my portfolio to get a job as a copy editor at the largest paper in the state. Wish me luck boys, and good luck to OP too.

Also, any degree is worthless in this profession. I've gotten a lot of work in freelance copy editing, and absolutely none of my employers asked for anything regarding education.

Honestly, at this point, 4chan's boards have evolved to become separate environments. Everyone here is held together by a common interest in literature, and we come here to discuss whatever we want to with similar minds. You could post a /uni/ general to any board you want, but it won't be as interesting anywhere else other than here.

Is English Lit. the best undergrad degree for law school hopefuls?

I struck up a conversation with a professor from Stanford yesterday, and he laughed at me when I mentioned that I'm going to have a pretty difficult time getting into a top-tier law school with as an English major. He then claimed that law schools are more interested in applicants that have non-pre-law degrees.

Is this true? Anyone have any advice? I want to get into patent law, specifically.

Find a purpose for reading.

If the goal is worth it, then your faculties will take over for you.

If one has no motivation to read, then the subject matter—nor anything else about the book, really—matters not.

The professor had it written twice on her email as well. It's either some shit attempt at humor, or a way to emphasize that Dickens is very important to the course.

College bookstores are an absolute money trap. I checked their copies, and they charged retail for them. I can just go to a used bookstore and get all of these novels for <$10, if I looked hard enough. My college is charging $22 for a single copy of Wuthering Heights alone; fuck that place.

She actually sent along links to libgen pages for each of the books. I don't like reading off of screens, so I'm opting for physical copies.

There's a Victorian Lit. I and II at my college. Those novels will probably come up at the next level.

I'm sorry, man. I immediately felt bored as soon as I read "wizened king," but I forced myself to read through the next two paragraphs and just felt tired afterwards.

It's obvious you put a lot of time into this, but it just doesn't feel right. It's like driving on a road whose potholes have just been filled recently.

I wish you the best of luck, man.

The thing is that you're just as concerned about vanity as the people whom you are talking about. You're just jealous about how you can't fit in with /lit/. It must be so embarrassing to know how you're on a lower echelon than people who only watch black and red films, or people who only read novels in their original language.

Why the fuck would you care what everyone else is thinking when you genuinely enjoy an activity?

Most of us can agree that there is no other place on the Internet, such as /lit/, where we can anonymously deliver painful diatribes to each other's works without any repercussion, and I have much respect for that. This place is fucking unique, my boys. We all have a rare opportunity to be who we really are here; as autistic, or as patrician as you are, the blanket of anonymity provides us with the pizazz that no other place can even dream of having just a part of. We have here a unique mix of spectral autism, haughtiness, inside jokes, and over-criticality that just makes you respect it. It is a little heartwarming when I do see serious discussions amidst all the vitriol and addendum; some of you people here are actually smart, not really something you'd expect.

I really cannot stop coming back here; it's akin to the feeling some of those people must have, who take literal shit, shape into perfect spheres, and then polish to a mirror-finish, ready to be displayed behind glass doors on a ring stand.

In my writing class in high school, I always used to write the whole essay/story first, then decide on the title.

You don't choose the title, the story does.

What kind of philosophy will point out the absurdness in not being able to talk to girls? I already got the looks, the body and the voice, and I just can't talk to attractive women. Book recs?
