Dont worry, you dont have to apologize about your critique even though youre right, the section youve read is only about three pages long, but please critique away, I wont cry.

Im really interested in what youve said, mainly, I hear the critique youve said given everywhere for a lot of different works, and its always so hard to understand what they mean by that.

What makes it vapid? What do you mean by forced-sentimentality?

I think I know this answer, but I have to ask. If you were to take a story you like, say women under the influence, and make the characters teenagers, would it lose its substance? Everything else is the same, only the characters are all younger.

Just to let you know, I do plan to have a message in this story, but like I said before, Im really digging the characteres ive built, and want to, I dont know, let them breath and see what they do.

Oh I get what youre saying, a better story could sell on its own whereas this needs an extra umph from somewhere.

Mind giving me an example of a work that is original in contrast to this? Like I said this is my first attempt at a large piece of work so I really, really want some healthy criticism.

Maybe some works where this is already done?
