I suppose you dislike contemporary music too? Or does your classicist wankery only apply to art.

One of my favorite artists, Stelarc showing off his third ear.

You might want to check out Lyotard's book The Inhuman. It doesn't deal directly with Ghost in the Shell, but it discusses relevant ideas. Thought without body, artificial intelligence, posthumanism, etc.

On the fine art side of things check out the performance artist Stelarc, he's a crazy son of a bitch.

flash intro is kind of confusing, pull on the corners like your turning pages in a book.

Sure, let me break down emotions. Is anger an emotion? what about hatred? what about conspiracy? What about love? What about political "feelings"? Do I have mathematical emotions when I do math? Is sickness an emotion? What about despair? Is "feeling smart" an emotion?

What we call emotions happen all over the brain in many areas. I dont know how one could say one kind of brain activity is an emotion and another not, except by the common place deffinition of emotion words like anger, love, fear, desire, sympathy, etc. Sociopaths have emotions, just not emotions you like.

Now, when you stand infront of an art work and say you have emotions, how do I verify that? Why does one work cause emotions in you and not me? At least with my approach of thinking of art as provoking knowledge, rational argument can take place as to the "goodness" or usefulness of the knowledge. Relying on emotions to define art is end the conversation of what good art is, before you ever even begin the debate.

By no means is it wrong for you to have emotions in front of art, sometimes I have emotions from all sorts of media (music, movies, art, fiction, video games, etc). Also, when people touch my genitals I start having emotions. When people point guns at me I have emotions. Its hardly a way to define art. Also, why does some art not provoke emotions in me? I still might very well like the art, is "liking" strong enough to be an emotion?

Here's a picture of Stelarc's Third Ear. He's an Australian performance artist living in Italy. He has been undergoing various plastic surgeries to make what appears to be an ear on his arm. It is real flesh and blood, although it does not hear. Yet. Soon he will implant a digital microphone in it.
