Basically every Lovecraft story
>old, delapidated hellscaped clouded in black mist that covers unspeakable horrors which no mortal man should discover... man I love new England
>white man wants to discover ye olde rituals - summons literal demons
>in order to acquire knowledge about those rituals he's either contacting sickly yellowish, croocked eyed and sus immigrants (asians) or big black ape-like brutes with large lips (black people)
>every fucking story is written as a 1st person journal
>"dark arts" "old knowledge beyond comprehension" "middle-eastern devil cults" "my ancestors back in England" "primordial evil" "barely retained my senses/consciousness"
>sometimes jelly looking space race
>cat named n-wordman

If you read one H.P. novel you basically read all of them. With exception of Call of Cthulu, Innsmouth and Mountains of Madness

I like his work but most of short novels seems the same

Has anyone here considered dropping out of full-time employment in order to focus on their art or a personal interest?

One thing I notice when reading about notable writers is that they often persevered in their field, however niche, despite suffering from poverty, humiliation, and so on as a result. But without doing that, they would arguably not have had the time and energy to bring to fruition their distinct talent or perspective.

A poem by H. P. Lovecraft -- "On the Creation of Niggers"

When, long ago, the gods created Earth
In Jove's fair image Man was shap'd at birth.
The beasts for lesser parts were next design'd;
Yet were they too remote from humankind.
To fill the gap, and join the rest to man,
Th'Olympian host conceiv'd a clever plan.
A beast they wrought, in semi-human figure,
Fill'd it with vice, and call'd the thing a NIGGER.

Thoughts?

I really REALLY want to like Lovecraft. And call me a retard but multipe times now when I tried to get into his stories there was a point when it just became ridiculous. The meme is that Lovecraft uses phrases like 'unspeakable horrors' etc without describing anything. But I genuinely wish he'd just really leave the background or 'myth' of his stories in the dark. Instead of that whenever he becomes descriptive with the being of the old ones or whatever, it reads like some sort of superhero league or really gay scifi indead of anything horrific. Maybe it didn't age that well or maybe I'm just a pretentious faggot, but I like the stories like The Rats in the Walls best, where the character is just thrown into a situation and there isn't that much of a descriptive explanation of some retarded ancient civilizations.

Unironically, is he interesting to read? I don't usually read fiction but he seems to have interesting stuff, I checked out Pickman's Model.

Yes, I know what the cat is called.
