Are his stories good literature? I find the concept of cosmic horror interesting but also want to know whether his works are complete shit or not and if there are any authors who treat the genre better.

Basically, the plot is always something like this:
>Doctor/Scientist/Skeptic goes to remote village to for investigative purposes
>The village is built of some ancient Indian graveyard, which was itself built on the unholy temple of some prehuman entity
>The close proximity to this evil place has caused the locals to racially degenerate, into a mongrel breed of violent simpletons, who are often interbred on top of it
>these mongrel savages practice strange rituals, worship evil and terrifying gods, engage in incest, and are generally mentally incapable of anything beyond this

The point is, all of America is basically built on Indian burial grounds, And the native inhabitants were themselves wiped out by the hundreds of thousands by strange diseases, leaving only the occasional campfire story warning of the strange beasts lurking in the shadows. The original American racial stock was made of heretical cults of religious fanatics, who were driven out of Europe for their satanic ideology, and it was with their arrival in the Americas that across the country densely populated urban centers suddenly became abandoned overnight.

I’ll let you do the math OP, but the roots of America’s racial degeneration go way deeper than slavery.
