>read an article or watch a video discussing a HP Lovecraft story or one related to the mythos
>they go on a long diatribe about how Lovecraft was an evil racist bigot and we should hate him

Why do they care so much that he was racist? It’s not like he attacked someone, or raped someone, or stole from someone. He just had some racist beliefs a hundred years ago and yet he’s treated like the devil who must be disavowed constantly

Even more cringeworthy is the attempt to “reclaim” the Lovecraft mythos from him by having black characters in it... by itself I couldn’t care less, but the interviews talking about how gleeful they are and how they are specifically happy because they get to shit on the dead author because he had the mean no-no views is just gross.

Pic related would have been all over dark academia.

>Obsessed with academia despite never attending university.
>Narrators are almost always academics or writers. Or at least some of the characters are.
>Loved writing about folklore and classics despite not knowing much about the topics.
>Loved libraries

He would have been all over it.

Flannery O'Connor was not an outsider she was a well known part of the Southern literary community and had fairly typical views as a religious Southern woman of her time

pic related was an outsider writer with a unique worldview that influenced many, many writers

I'm too autistic and introverted, m8s. Since graduating with a meme degree two years ago, I've flip-flopped between periods of NEETdom and soul-sucking customer service jobs. Now I'm starting work as a teacher in August, but terrified I'm too socially inept to keep it. Anyone else have trouble finding and holding on to work? I just want to read and write all day.

Some TV autist told me to post this here so fuck it why not.

Why do we pretend HP Lovecraft is scary. I understand how during his time the idea that humanity wasn't the center of the universe was terrifying, but nowadays that's just a given.

I've read over half of his writing and it all boils down to some spergy academic type losing his mind because he cannot comprehend the idea something could come from space that's more powerful than 1915s man.

He writes about indescribable unexplainable horrors we cannot comprehend, but spends bare minimum four paragraphs overdescribing the exact shape, texture, size, color, movement, smell, and energy of this supposedly incomprehensible creature.

Seriously why is culture still fellating a pulp magazine shut in for writing about fish men, giant penguins, and blobs with tentacles?

I'm looking for books that can engage people with high disgust sensitivity. So far I've only found stories from Lovecraft and Ligotti to be working. Does it have to be horror or do you know of other literature that works with this temperament? Or perhaps literature for despondent idealists, I think that is in the same ball park a Lovecraft and Ligotti

What's the hardest hitting poetry you've ever read? This is mine

When, long ago, the gods created Earth
In Jove's fair image Man was shaped at birth.
The beasts for lesser parts were next designed;
Yet were they too remote from humankind.
To fill the gap, and join the rest to Man,
Th'Olympian host conceiv'd a clever plan.
A beast they wrought, in semi-human figure,
Filled it with vice, and called the thing a ....
