I agree with this, but I don't know why it's ironic.

"Vague" continental philosophy naturally lends itself to talking about "god and the world", everything and all.
If you're doing your Master thesis on modal logic like David Foster Wallace, you're just touching a sub-subject of a sub-subject, without necessarily getting delusions of grandeur and thinking your ideas will change everything or are right. Consistency of a formal theory is generally a far weaker requirement than being right about something in the real world.
