I honestly could overlook the gay stuff, and I say that as a pretty big homophobe. HOWEVER, I'm a much bigger racist and could not overlook what seemed like anti white rhetoric throughout the book
The way he describes blacks, and the way he bashes white traditions and notions of superiority made me, as a white supremacist, deeply uncomfortable. Yes there's a good book here, but I think we should discourage its reading as a board. It's our duty to cultivate strong young minds and to steer them away from things that create hatred of your own (superior) race

Hey guys, just started reading this and decided to go to Goodreads to see what others thought of it, as I'm wont to do but unable to defend well. Anyways, lots of reviews talk about how the writer is gay or bi (something I don't believe in at all) and I feel like it's just revisionist horseshit by the left like when they claim Mozart is black. Is there any truth to this, or is it leftists being unable to appreciate affection between men? Thanks brothers.

Legitimately a work of genius. No wonder this is like the favourite book of so many famous authors.

What does this mean, it's from Moby Dick. I think Ismael is talking but I am not sure. I like this quote but I don't know what it's talking about.

"Oh, grassy glades! oh ever vernal endless landscapes in the soul; in ye,—though long parched by the dead drought of the earthly life,— in ye, men yet may roll, like young horses in new morning clover; and for some few fleeting moments, feel the cool dew of the life immortal on them. Would to God these blessed calms would last. But the mingled, mingling threads of life are woven by warp and woof: calms crossed by storms, a storm for every calm. There is no steady unretracing progress in this life; we do not advance through fixed gradations, and at the last one pause:— through infancy’s unconscious spell, boyhood’s thoughtless faith, adolescence’ doubt (the common doom), then scepticism, then disbelief, resting at last in manhood’s pondering repose of If. But once gone through, we trace the round again; and are infants, boys, and men, and Ifs eternally. Where lies the final harbor, whence we unmoor no more? In what rapt ether sails the world, of which the weariest will never weary? Where is the foundling’s father hidden? Our souls are like those orphans whose unwedded mothers die in bearing them: the secret of our paternity lies in their grave, and we must there to learn it.”

I refuse to believe this was written by Amerimutts. Most people think it's British and it's very likely is. I bet it was published in England first or that the author is first generation English. Therefore this belong to British Literature.
