Hello /lit/, I am about to start university, majoring in Modern Humanities. It wasn't my first choice, but I am very passionate about literature and linguistics in general, so I applied.

I'm not planning on becoming a teacher, nor do I think I am cut for writing. What do people with this kind of degrees do? Does it even make sense for me to even go through with it?
I feel like I've made a selfish decision, with no real direction or plan. Am I about to waste precious years of my youth?

Any good historical works centered around the perspective of civilians during wartime?

Like how they lived, made money, etc. If I were to ask for a particular era I'd say WW2
