This book is the "winner of the booker of bookers" the best novel to have won the prize in 25 years. I'm not saying it's complete shit but for all the hype around it I don't think it's good as everyone says it is. The prose is fine, all the characters have quirky personalities, I don't think most of the characters are that interesting. I didn't find the main character and narrator Saleem Sinai to be that interesting. It can be fun, the stuff about Indian mythology is always interesting to learn and read about, the magical realist element of Saleem Sinai having telepathic powers was done well but man it was a slog to read over 600 pages of this book. The only other book I have read that was set in India was The White Tiger which I thought was shit.

Holy shit this is bad. Does it get better?
