I've read that a novel needs to have at least 60,000 words to even hope to be looked at by publishers and agents.

I'm working on my first novel and I just don't think I'm going to get much more then 40,000 words.

I don't like filler and I just want to focus on the story.

I look at stuff like Twlight and the Hunger games and they can get over 300 pages and it seems to just work for them.

I just don't get how to do it.
