In the last part of Phaedo, there's a long passage where Socrates describes the Earth "above" and says things like it having beautiful colors, and the people there seeing things purely and more clearly than us, and other such things. What was the point of this description and what does it refer to exactly? I don't get it

I've finished read his complete works but didn't take any notes and would like to go back to his ideas in the future

I've never read a book in my life and I'm trying to become more literate. I'm by no means a retard, I aced English in high school despite not reading the books in the curriculum (not a brag). I've just never enjoyed reading books and could never get into them, and even if I did, I'd forget what I read the next day. I really want to explore the works of philosophers and read good novels. I've read the wiki and it has been quite useful. I just want a second opinion on what I should begin with, before I "waste" my time reading a book.

Plato's dialogues are basically the thinker already knowing his thoughts in advance and the other raising objections that the author thought of himself. They are the equivalent of a retard on 4chan arguing with himself using different IPs. What a joke.

I think Plato's works should be part of the Scriptures.

He can be considered an essential part of the historical process of revelation of God. Thanks to his influence, the Israelites changed their understanding of YHWH, that they previously saw only as a possessive and jealous despot, and started appreciating His rationality that reveals itself in the mathematical beauty of the physical world.

Wow, Plato really did say everything worth saying. For years I've found Western Zen practitioners -- especially those in the habit of discussing Zen online -- to be some of the most obnoxiously egocentric people around while banging on about ego-free living. But I've never been able to articulate the criticism as succinctly and elegantly as this:

"How much pride you expose to view, Diogenes, by seeming not to be proud."
