What's the best translation of Plato? I have a pdf of Jowett, but others have recommended Cooper.

Plato is not philosophy. Plato is not /lit/. Plato is religious mumbo jumbo that no one can test empirically or prove.

"God lets the oppositional will of the ground operate in order that might be which love unifies and subordinates itself to for the glorification of the Absolute. The will of love stands about the will of the ground and this predominance, this eternal decidedness, the love for itself as the essence of being in general, this decidedness is the innermost core of absolute freedom."
- Heidegger

It seems Plato can truly never be dethroned.

You use Platonic terms and this is Plato's refutation of Aztec "philosophy".

I started with Plato: First his Republic, then Five Dialogues, Symposium, Phaedrus and so forth. Around half way through of reading Plato I started reading Homers Illiad then the Odyssey, after that I bought the book Hesiods Theogony, Works and Days, Shield of Herakles along with the complete texts of the Presocratics, the Greek Stoic fragments and the complete works of the three Greek Playwrights. Got to Aristotle in the first couple months of the year after starting with Plato/the Greeks. Reading the Bible throughout this same year as well.

There might of been a few other works but this is most of them. I think the general layout of this reading is about as ideal as you can get. Laying Plato as your moral and aesthetic ideal, and by this having him as the cultural lens/introduction to Ancient Greece in general. Ending with Aristotle. About to start reading the Romans however after finishing the Greeks it gives one the ability to splinter off into many different interests such as War and Economics and the likes.

Indubitably the last great philosopher; after him it's all been going downhill and becoming more irrelevant and repetitive.

Hey lit

Picked up complete works by Plato at the library because finances are tight, otherwise I would just buy the book. Should I keep checking it out until I've read front to back or is there some stuff I could stand to weed out?

Thanks

This man is responsible for some of the worst philosophy ever to be written.

Fuck platonism and fuck idealism.

I've read Euthyphro, the Apology and Crito. So far all of his dialogues have been very straightforward and i'm afraid this simpleness is a depection. Is it really all that self-explanotory? Are his other works more complicated?
