If you are at all interested in who you are reading, you are and will stay a pleb at heart.

True good taste doesn't turn up its nose at John Green or Brandon Sanderson, and loudly demand to read Calvino, Shikibu, etc.. It would simply quietly move on, and politely smile and deflect if a relative or coworker mentioned Paper Towns.

You have a real sense of taste if you're developed it over years, if it's changed many times before coming to rest somewhere you are happy to call a part of yourself, and you're confident enough in it to not seek the approval of others.
