Engage with the material. It's the only way to really remember what you read. Ask questions, savor the imagery, make associations, say certain words out loud while you're reading, especially if they are rare or particularly representative of the stream of thought.

There's a music to thought. You don't need to take notes to remember how a song goes, do you? If you find the melody of the words, remembering the ideas is trivial.

Don't subscribe to formulae. Don't think you'll find the answer in a book. You must find the will to penetrate words. You must find the woman in them. Then your libido will synergistically find her (truth).

It takes a certain amount of comfort with loneliness to weather the pain that truth comes with, but you do not have to end up alone. At some point, you'll have to compromise on your absolute truth, but it is not at the expense at truth, rather, at the expense of your ego, for personal truth is a thing we wish to preserve in its entirety. However, fundamental to truth is change, and any attempt to preserve it perfectly will crumble in the face of humanity.
