After reading some Steiner I have started thinking of consciousness differently.
He states that there are a few main components to human consciousness and each lower tier can be applied to lower forms of consciousness I believe.

The first is the world of the senses. Here he points out that we do not sense directly, but form perceptions based on the sensations our senses communicate to us. We do not have a direct interaction with reality. Secondly comes the world of concepts, that after repeated exposure you form the world of forms and concepts, pretty much the same thing Plato talked about. Then there is the will. He holds a completely different idea of will than most people I've read, for he states that will stems from desire. If we had no desire and acted completely on whims or instinct then the will would not be present, and we would be acting like animals responding to instincts. The will comes into play as one decides to apply it to an area where desire establishes a goal, and that goal can be simply to lessen the discomfort of some experience such as hunger. Then there is the higher form of will, an informed will in a sense. This is in regard to accumulating knowledge to such an extent one can go directly against the instincts and pursue conceptual ideals by sacrificing whatever immediate gain one would have.
Following that there is the faculty of thinking, of logic / logos. This is a separate faculty which is truly an objective force. The knowledge can be faulty and emotions can taint the forms but logic which is applied is universal. The outcome is largely irrelevant, the procedure remains of differentiating between various inputs and thoughts. Something completely inane can be completely logical.
Finally, there is the soul. The consciousness which is observing it all unfold. The observer. No faculty of observation, including thought, can be directed towards the processes of consciousness itself. Meaning that while the metaphysical world is separated from the physical, so is the world of the soul/consciousness separated from the metaphysical. This is a whole topic that needs much more space than this box offers.

So after all the above I have come to view things very differently. Consciousness to me is a lifeform itself. It transcends species and even life forms for AI can and will be guided by our consciousness, our ideas and forms. It mutates with each transition to a new host and assimilates within their paradigm where it's digested by their structure of logic and perception. Consciousness then seems to spread according to entropy even for it's constantly evolving from a singular and hectic form to a universal understanding. It transcends the notions of death for there is only change as long as there are hosts to reside in.

Are there any works which deals with consciousness in this manner?

What did he mean by this?

Now that you're on /lit/, you must repent and embrace the knowledge that the physical brain is only the vehicle or conduit for the soul and not coterminous with it. Resist the manifestation of Ahriman.

Where do I start with Rudolf Steiner's lectures? I have his early books/theses but there are so many lectures I have no idea where the hell to begin.
