i agree a lot of wholesome memes are incredibly shallow and insincere. but much like the evolution of irony on the internet i believe (hope at least) that as time goes on this way of expression becomes increasingly nuanced and varied

never give or allow things just because they are cute, for example lying, stealing, and manipulating in that clumsy semi-innocent way kids do stuff in.
tell them they are pretty but never from any other perspective than parental love, dont put objective value on it.
explain and show the importance of hard work, honesty and curiosity.
honestly answer every and all annoying questions when they enter that phase where they just ask why about everything. go as in depth as they can handle without overwhelming them.
do not put pressure on appearing smart through grades or books read or chess skill or whatever other superficial smart skill. thats how you get pretentious pricks.
