>i'm in the starbucks, reading finnegans wake
>this kind of cute girl walks up to me
>i'm already getting kind of sexy. i'm a horndog sometimes. you know how girls make you. but i start getting the goddamn shakes, too, for some reason. not because i'm yellow or nothing, cause i'm not. i just start shaking. sometimes i shake. i don't know why i do it, but i do.
>"Hey! You're reading Finnegans Wake? Is it any good?"
>"I-I think you'll find Finnegans Wake transcends the normative good-bad dichotomy, actually"
>she says she doesn't know what i'm saying.
>all girls are a little air-headed, you know. they're all the goddamn same. this one is a little air-headed too, i can tell, but i'm half in love with her all the same. you know how it is. a girl comes up to you and asks about finnegans wake and you just sort of fall in love with her.
>so what i do is, i snort a bit. just a little. just to show her that it was a little funny, what she said. in a cute way. you would've snorted too if you'd been there. you would've.
>as i'm snorting coffee starts coming out of my nose, along with one tiny string of spaghetti. just one. can you believe it? you snort a bit and goddamn coffee and spaghetti comes out of your goddamn nose.

If I liked "Nine Stories" by Salinger, what else might I like?

Start with Salinger. CitR then his Short Stories. Though many people find him unbearable he has a flowing and easy prose. Even if you find yourself in the Anti-Holden camp his other works are vastly different and interesting enough to appreciate.

Then go and read Fight Club which is an entry point into experimental fiction though it isn't the highest quality of it.

When you think you're ready to develop an aesthetic sensibility go read Gatsby and Hemingway. If you can't get a feel of the descriptions and the poetry then try Lolita.

Once you think you're ready go take on Dostoyevsky and C&P. If not try Chekhov's short stories.

If you find it hard to get into a literary sensibility with pure texts then start with Watchmen, Sandman and Alan Moore's run of Swamp thing.

Why haven't you gone full recluse mode like Salinger, who only came out to fuck women half his age or younger?

What do you think Mr. Salinger's 2015 stuff will be like?

So, uh, I'm new here, but I figured /lit/ would be the place to ask.

Do you think having the 3 unpublished works of J.D. Salinger cause enough press to get a private torrent site shut down?
Because they got leaked yesterday and I'm concerned for what.cd.

Hello /lit/. I dont browse this board often, but you guys may have been talking about J.D. Salinger recently because of the documentary that was just made (as well as his new books being published). Im totally looking forward to the new books, but I havent watched the doc because pretty much everyone regards it as trash, plus it kind of goes against his hate for media praise.

Anyway, I am just wondering what /lit/ thinks of this man. Glancing at his wiki page, he really comes off to me as a prick. I think he could have accomplished way more if he wasnt such a shut in. But I do think that he is a pretty strong writer. He had potential I guess.

>The story [The Ocean Full of Bowling Balls] was initially going to appear in Harper's Bazaar,[2] but Salinger withdrew the story before publication. This story is available only in the Princeton library.[3] Those who wish to read it must check in with two forms of ID with the librarian, and are then supervised while they read the story behind the closed doors of a special reading room. As per the terms of Salinger's donation of the manuscript to Princeton, it cannot be published until 50 years after his death; thus, the earliest it can be published is January 27, 2060. (Princeton Library guide pg. 2 line 5).

Any Princeton fags want to heist this book and scan it?

Nobody ever came close. Whether it's the Catcher or his later work, nobody. Perhaps early Hemingway, In Our Time, but other than that, I can't think of anyone.

/lit/, can you help me with this paper I have due tomorrow?

1. What are some of the theatrical conventions that Sophocles revolutionized?

2. What characterized the drama festivals of Sophocles’ day?

3. Write at least three things that you did not know about Greek drama.

4. What is one Greek dramatic convention that we still use today?
