They are fearsome creatures...
But what i was trying to lead into is that i think that a monster design should be, perhaps not allegorical, but in someway represent the deeper fears and anxieties which exist within humanity. For example, why does one fear a monster? fundamentally, for most, it is the vicarious fear of death, or death in a horrible way. Such a fear is nearly universal, and monster designs are often death mixed with other common phobias (spiders, tentacled monsters, wolves, ect.). So, the questions i think you should be asking yourself is how you can create a monster which evokes a specific fear. Say, is there a design that could incorporate claustrophobia, or social isolation, or guilt, or inadequacy, or a lack of control, or any of the myriad real fears people face everyday. What lovecraft was doing was incorporating common phobias—the fear of ones own sanity, and existential dread—into his horror. So, one shouldn't, i think, focus on spectacle, but on concept. For many people there is a fate worse than death. one may be being the cause of great suffering to their family or loved ones, so a monster which causes its victim to doom his or her loved ones by their own hands could, to some, be much more horrifying that simply something which kills you in a horrible way. ya get me?

You're not going to want to accept this, but you should be on /pol/
Politics has nothing do with this thread and the fact you bring it up shows you belong there
