So what's the point of going to university and paying to study literature, philosophy, art history or history?

> libraries contain more books than you could ever read
> university lectures on a huge range of subjects (thousands and thousands of hours) are available free from universities like Yale through open course programs, or easily torrentable from something like The Great Courses
> more criticism has been written by experts and scholars than youn could ever read and it's either free through liraries or the cost of the book

I just don't get why you would spend thousands of dollars a semester learning something you could just as easily learn for a sliver of the cost on your own.
