Life is hard because humans have an inborn need to sin. The more you overcome this need by your own agency, the more you become like Christ. Why should you do this? Because an absolute morality exists. Choose right action because it is what Christ commanded, and because it is a mercy to your brothers. Turn to Christ and have faith in Him because He is goodness itself, which you were made (in His image) to manifest in the world.
