Why is his prose so dry? I'm about halfway through Infinite Jest and the schtick is really wearing off. The plots are pretty decent and I actually enjoyed his sort of encyclopedic meandering descriptions for the first 300 pages or so. But now it's in slog territory realizing that there is absolutely no emotional or poetic quality to his prose. It's purely onanistic and exactly what I imagine the monologues of madame psychosis would be like. I mean, there are plenty of clever or somewhat funny moments, but it feels completely emotionally detached, making it rather boring.

I'm an attention spanlet. Post short reads that are memorable or emotionally impactful.
