> Favorite novel
Soldier of Arete by Gene Wolfe(Pic related)

> Currently reading
The Life of Saladin by Beha Ed-Din, Three Kingdoms(Moss Roberts translations), and re-reading Best Served Cold by Joe Abercrombie

> Proudest reading achievement
I've never found reading to be a source of pride. Is that strange?

> Description of current crush/girlfriend/wife
I crush on female screamo/hardcore vocalists all the time. My current woman is a lingerie model/dance instructor, tall, thin, brunette. Perfect nipples. She likes Byron, The Great Gatsby, and a lot of poetry.

By far the most enjoyable thing I've ever read.

Short plot summary: A Roman mercenary in something like 435BC receives a head wound. His short-term memory pretty much dies and he can't remember anything from one day to the next. Coincidentally, he can also now see spirits and the gods. He keeps a journal and reads as much of it as he can each day, assuming someone reminds him. This is the journal.

It's a fairly easy read as long as you're attentive. Due to Latro's memory, something that actually is important might not seem so to him and he won't make a big deal out of it in the journal.

This is almost cheating, but I don't give a fuck.

Anyway, some stuff you might like:

Ilium and/or Olympos by Dan Simmons
The Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny
Doorways in the Sand by Roger Zelazny
The First Law trilogy and/or Best Served Cold(both are set in the same world) by Joe Abercrombie(Great for some dark humor)
Master and Commander(Book 1 in the Aubrey-Maturin series, historical fiction) by Patrick O'Brian
Latro in the Mist by Gene Wolfe

Voltaire has a certain humor to him. Zadig would be a good short of his to sample before picking up Candide.

I wanted Latro and little Io to live happily ever after together ;__;

I haven't gotten around to reading all of Soldier of Sidon, but I feel pretty strongly that it's not going to happen, given the ending of Soldier of Arete.

Why don't we ever talk about Latro? He's a cool guy, yeah? No short-term memory, doesn't afraid of anything, etc.

In the Wizard World(Changeling and Madwand) books, Zelazny retreats back to traditional fantasy, told in a boring, disconnected 3rd person narrator.

Soldier of the Mist is really disjointed. Even more disjointed than the weeks that Latro didn't write anything at all in Soldier of Arete.

The ending of Last Argument of Kings pissed me off. Really? Everyone is just a puppet of Bayaz's? Fantastic. Thanks for an exercise in futility, rendering all the previous character development meaningless.
