His books aren't great but he is always engrossing in live debate. What's impressive about him is how off the cuff and easily articulate he is, whatever else might be true of his views. Politically I find him repugnant, but he was a great orator.

Of course he squandered it on some weird middle school styled crusade against Christianity, but I guess nu-atheism wasn't quite as pathetic yet back then. I assume and even hope this was mostly for profit, his life as a sort of entertainer or celebrity.

He was also consistent and a little bit prophetic. I mean read pic related and tell me this man wasn't someone who understood the trend in America.

I highly recommend anyone look up his videos on Firing Line or something, just a real treat to watch actual civil discourse on political matters back when it was still possible. Hitchens is such a fantastic orator too and very articulate on the fly, strange how his books kind of suck despite this.
