>>Inb4 this is not /lit/ related
it's more /lit/-related than 80% of threads up on /lit/ at this time. there are plenty of courses from TTC and the like that tackle specific philosophers, specific philosophical movements or ages, and if you combine those you should get a pretty good overview. I'll only recommend the ones I've actually listened to and thought were valuable here, which isn't much, but it should be a start:
>Louis Markos, From Plato to Post-modernism: Understanding the Essence of Literature and the Role of the Author
focuses on the discourses in philosophy of language and communication, theories of the subject and such, as those things relate to the arts and literary criticism in particular. it's not quite a 'history of philosophy', but it does provide a relatively straight-forward introduction to many of the major figures in western philosophy, and most importantly, the lecturer knows his stuff, so you won't come away with weird preconceptions, hopefully.
>Lawrence Cahoone, The Modern Intellectual Tradition: From Descartes to Derrida
>Lawrence Cahoone, The Modern Political Tradition: Hobbes to Habermas
these two lecture series likewise do an incredible job of presenting the various philosophers and thinkers discussed simply, earnestly and without slipping into political distortions. they're limited to more recent times, and I recommend finding and listening to some more lectures on ancient and medieval philosophy specifically before getting into that.

Given the mention of House of Leaves, though, maybe Daddy Borges would have written something along these lines at least at one point. Go figure when I count him as my favorite author but I haven't really read that much of his bibliography overall.

I'm actually more trying to make it as a poet these days. I've gotten three poems published this year. I have an entire chapbook worth of poems all on a similar theme, and I'm trying to find a publisher for it. I figure my best bet is to get more poems published and raise my profile. With a certain amount of recognition, I'm sure to get someone's attention, right?

Who wants to bet this was voted on by a lot of people who haven't read a book since high school, and so "To Kill A Mockingbird" was just the most recent book they've read?

Come to think of it, every time the Catholic Church has a crisis, it's usually followed within a century or so by a bigger crisis that engulfs the entire West. It's like the Church is a leading indicator, a canary in a coal mine. When things are getting ready to pop off in the West as a whole, they pop off in the Church first.

Doing more editorial work and getting into the beginning of postmodernism (and away from communism) probably helped.

I think you could have handled that better so you didn't look like you had some sort of mental issue

What are the apparent features of the Edwardian Era in literature? I've read The Schartz-Metterklume Method by Saki, everybody says "this short story represents the Edwardian society ho ho". But nobody says what it is. Can anybody explain?

INTP here. 4chan only seems to attract people in that upper-right quadrant.

What are the gaps in the boxes in that image?

Newton was a staunch Monarchist who wanted to draw and quarter all traitors to the crown.

What now?
