I'm a physicist. I note down things directly on the papers I read in Zotero ("literary" notes). Then later I write down the important equations and concepts in LyX or directly on LaTeX. But this way I end up with big files full of related information instead of small, atomic zettels. I tried using Zettlr for a great while but it's a bit annoying in the end to convert markdown to latex whenever I have to write something. Maybe zettelkasten are more adapted to people who don't write many equations
