[ERROR]

Read this recently after being heavily recommended it by a friend. Was wondering what others thoughts on it are. A lot of the ideas were interesting but so much of it also felt so presumptuous and sci-fi. I wasn’t entirely fond of way the aggressively fallacious way it asserts its own accuracy on everything. Your narrator stand in is basically called an idiot that should already know all of these OBVIOUSLY true interpretations and assumptions and when the narrator is amazed and awoken you’re made to feel bad if you haven’t bought in and aren’t also falling for it. I think the unsubstantiated claims and weird delivery end up ultimately making the otherwise good points murkier.

Can a book be so far up it's own ass that plebs interpret it as meaningful insight out of sheer confusion? That was my interpretation of Ishmael - a thinly veiled dogma-spew by its author - although everyone I have spoken to about it seems to like it.

Am I justified in feeling immensely superior after reading this book?
