Friends, to avoid many of the faulty interpretations I've seen in this thread read this interpretation of Nietzsche.

Instead of banging your head on the Will to Power you need to start small and get an overview by an author who actually wants you to understand the core of Nietzsche's self-surpassing philosophy.

I'll recommend this book. The idea of the Eternal Return is truly liberating from the dread of future non-existence.

If you're interested in Nietzsche then this book is decent. The language is not overly complicated or obtuse, like a philosophy book often is. The author goes through a lot of different philosophers to contrast with Nietzsche, and then reactions and interpretations that followed him. I'd say it's a great way to gain interest in philosophy, offering you an insight into other philosophers that you might want to read more about.

Instead of frogposting about Nietzsche, let's discuss some of ideas held by /lit/'s favorite philosopher.

Do you agree with his perception of the aim of science being joy instead of truth? Instead of a Will to Truth, making the world thinkable, Nietzsche desired the Gay Science: happiness through seeing the good in everything, even suffering.

What about his refutation of both free and unfree will? For him you act according to your nature.

Do you believe in a soul? Are the actual you the consciousness, the mind, sealed within a mind of flesh? Nietzsche would call you absurd. To him, you are the body, your conscious mind merely an outspring of it, not "you."

Jumping straight into Nietzsche can lead lesser minds to hit a brick wall. Try Thus Spake Zarathustra first. It's written in aphoristic style, with a dramatized character. Definitively going to be the easiest of his books to get into.

After that, I'd recommend Alper's book on Nietzsche. He argues against many of his predecessors' interpretations of Nietzsche, instead seeing a coherent worldview embodied in the self-surpassing philosopher. When you've read it you can pretty much get through any of Nietzsche's books and actually gain something from him.

This is a fun read if you want to get into Nietzsche.

This one is a short read for getting hold of Nietzsche's metaphysics. Alper makes a case for a completely coherent worldview of Nietzsche, unlike what others might claim to be the case.

Alper argues that Nietzsche's worldview is in fact logical, and not self-contradictory as often claimed by Nietzsche scholars or critiques. Self-surpassing as the ultimate goal makes life a quest worth living.

Can you counter his arguments about Foucault, Deleuze, Kaufman and Heidegger misinterpreting Nietzsche?

Read this book if you want to be able to refute Nietzsche haters who claim he's not a real philosopher, that his works are "full of contradictions", or that he didn't establish a proper metaphysical world.
