Is it just my imagination, or is Faulkner the spitting image of Frasier's dad out of off of Frasier?

Don't mind me, just being the most over rated writer on earth.

Is there an essential reading list from /lit/? I know tastes are different with everyone, but some books are just "must read before you die".

Things from Catch 22 to Lord of the Rings, if there isn't a list, can we start one? I'd compile the list over a few days and post it for revision?

Pic unrelated. I hate Faulkner.

My english teacher tried to get me into him. What a pile of steaming fuck this guy is.

His writing is see through, his foreshadowing is garbage, and his writing is so painfully insipid it gives me a headache to read. I feel he is incredibly over rated.

Anyone else with me?

I really dislike Faulkner. People don't speak the way he writes. I read books for entertainment and it is not entertaining when you have to wonder all through the book what in the world the author's talking about. How did Faulkner ever get so famous? I felt like a kid asking "what did he mean by" and "what does this mean"? Its one thing for you not to understand because it is actually deep and stuff, but it's another when the author is so bad at writing that you just cant figure out what hes saying.

I enjoyed The Sound and the Fury (well, after reading it a second time). How is As I Lay Dying?
