Rose can't engage with Nietzsche properly because Rose's entire worldview and philosophy are based entirely around the concept of ressentiment.

He has a deep-seated hatred and resentment for a variety of other groups and ideological points of view which he cloaks under a veneer of pious humility. Rose and Nietzsche are ironically very alike in their vicious temperaments, with the exception that Nietzsche claims his own views to be entirely his own while Rose transplants what are really his own feelings of intellectual superiority and spiritual pride onto an external Church in order to avoid coming across as smug or arrogant (he fails).

Both of these men ultimately shipwreck on the same rock in their respective philosophies because they fetishize suffering. Nietzsche's "amor fati" and Rose's cosmic deadbeat dad are both brought to their knees by Ivan Karamazov - no amount of "life affirmation" or "God's plan" can justify the suffering of a single innocent child. There is no "meaning" that will make it acceptable for a toddler to be slowly and agonizingly bludgeoned to death while they scream helplessly for their mother. If that's the price for the "Ubermensch" or "God's Kingdom" then it isn't fucking worth it. The (potentially apocryphal) tale of Nietzsche suffering a complete psychotic break at the sight of a horse being whipped really says it all.

The God of Seraphim Rose's theology is hopelessly incompetent at best and an almighty fiend at worst. He has loosed a swarm of demonic horrors on the world and barely lifts a finger to protect us from them. He is content to let most of the world suffer terribly and ignorantly under the thrall of malevolent forces, potentially for the mere sake of proving a point. Even if you convert to Rose's preferred religious sect your odds of God actually "saving" you are up shit's creek. He is the God of death camps, famines, psychosis, and cancer. He mouths golden rules, and forgiveness multiplied seventy times seven, and invented Hell. It is ironic that Rose is so eager to slander the deities of other faiths as demons but is not willing to go one step further and apply the label to his own. For any entity that considered the murder of Sylvia Likens to be an acceptable price for his "glorious kingdom" is surely worthy of that title. To stand in the midst of a cancer ward full of children and say "Amen" to this thing is indistinguishable from bowing before Moloch. There's no morally sane way for any of this to be worth it. Same goes for Nietzsche's vanity project. You should hasten to return your ticket if you are an honest man.
