As an aside: is there anything more disappointing than an ugly little girl? Of course, as soon as any single one appears in your field of vision, no matter how far away, your pedo senses activate and your eyes dart; you feel the sweat seeping and your breath becoming rough. A perfect angel frolicking by to bring a little job into your life. But... she came closer. Ah. Not that one.
Happens to me every day.

Philosophy asks questions, but gives no definitive answers. There is no point to philosophy whatsoever.

If philosophers are so smart, and are trying to express the meaning in human existence, why can't they explain their ideas to the average human? Shouldn't the key to human existence be something every person can understand?

Is the "well, where's YOUR book?" argument actually perfectly valid when it comes to shutting down amateur critics in literature?

Think about it. The argument fails when you speak about movies or TV shows or videogames, because obviously not everyone has the money or resources to make a movie or game. But a book is a solitary endeavor and purely determined by your own talent. If you've never published a book yourself, you shouldn't expect your opinions to hold any weight.

I don't read genre fiction, not because I'm a snob but because I've never had any desire to, is this a good list of genre fiction that's actually worth reading and what should I add?

ITT tortured wordplay with stupid puns
This is /lit/, so hopefully the users enjoy wordplay. Post stuff and see if other anons can pick out all the puns and references.
>He ordered a book on becoming a white hat called Into The Mainframe, as it was clear he had no chance of learning through doing. He began Reeding Into The Mainframe, and as that didn't help matters either he slowly became convinced that the man on the cover was pointing at him.
>He stayed in the lake for a while, treading water in slow, methodical strokes and imagining a group of friends with him. A few hours later he was dripping dry on the beach as a strong wind blew, destroying a large, intricate web in front of him. He saw the eight legged terror of the eight legged terror, desperately holding on until a final gust tore the last strand of silk. He watched the spider land, and laughed to himself.
And finally just me trying to tell a coherent story with as much rhyming and assonance as possible
>Like Anna Karenina killin' a commoner killin' a foreigner people who follow her antics are frantically calling forensics prevented from entering - send her in - butler defend her in court cause he thought what he saw was a dream cause it seemed to be rough at the seams, saw enough at the scene, acted tough but he'd seen something awful, obscene

Are we an intellectual dark age and why? I think yes, for these reasons among others - briefly:
>the shift in the focus of education from intellectual reasons to utilitarian reasons
>the growing stigma against manual work which forces people to go through education who do not suit it - thus forcing education to be dumbed down
>the idea that reading books is inherently intellectual has spread, and so people read Harry Potter and have no desire to move on to anything else
