I think the writing of fiction attracts a sort of man whose heart is prone to overfilling with emotions he doesn't care to share. When his heart swells to bursting, he screams through the written word things he would dare not speak; and because it is fiction, only this and nothing more, he need not fear the prying eyes of men.

I can't even believe in this cope anymore. My last gf was one of those "shy gamer girl teehee" kinds. She'd just gotten out of an 8-month stint of not leaving her house shortly before meeting me (this was years before coofid). The charm wore of incredibly fast and I was left with an insecure, unstable, depressive, BPD 7.5/10 girl who occasionally wore cat ears while we had sex. It's not worth it. The "get a shy gf" meme is yet another grift.

Maybe I’m being dramatic or contrived, but it seems to me that the commonest/most realistic scenario (or even ideal, knowing how life goes for some people) for most men in 1st world countries is something like:
>more or less enjoy youth
>get secondary education/training
>spend 7-10 hours per day 5 days per week working for ~40 years
>use money to live moderately comfortably and not die of exposure/starvation
>convince yourself that you don’t hate your job
>marry decent enough woman
>have a couple kids (even if you don’t know that you can properly love or raise them) because “that’s what you do”
>you feel inadequate as a father in many regards
>convince yourself that your kids aren’t disappointing
>marriage stagnates, basically becomes a mostly-friendly roommate situation (at best)
>spend what little free time you have on what are basically time-wasting hobbies
>retire between 60-70
>live ~10 more years and die (hope it’s painless)

That’s it. That’s life. Like it or not, this is what’s probably in store for us. This is based of my observations of probably a dozen men I know in the 30-70 age range. Does anyone have any book recs that’ll make me feel less fucking depressed about this? What about books on finding alternative paths?

I have recently come to believe that money is everything. Nothing matters more than currency.
What are the arguments against this sort of thinking?
