My personal hypothesis is humanist propaganda and capitalism. Just because transistors get smaller every year cosmopolitan bugmen soul type think humans can do anything and science and technology is a panacea for all problems and voids meaning. In conjunction with capitalism and consumerism that hypes up these innovations as radically world altering when they really aren't (see AI right now). People are trapped in doublethink that things have never been better but still frustrated and it's all going to burn precariously tomorrow.

I always disliked Gaiman because intelligence and creativity is disproportionate (lower) to what he actually writes. Ooohhh anthropomorphizations of metaphysical concepts oooooh. Because this is 4chan and most posters here are default contrarian to anything with a modicum of accessibly or popularity. If Rick & Morty referenced Confederacy of Dunces or Book of the New Sun people here would immediately stop liking and shit all over them. Same thing with non-duality. There's lots of people who will cream themselves over Germanic neoplatonic mysticism but still claim they're not those Alan Watts type psueds.

People love Marvel and Star Wars movies because they are starved for access to initiation into the hero's journey and people love Breaking Bad because they gratuitous suffering of Walter White gives catharsis. The average glub glub proles imagines and wants to feel vindicated for turning to a life of crime and murdering a millionaire who cuts in front of them in line.
