Alright, it’s about time we talked about how disgusting this chart is because I really can’t stand people who assert the most idiotic opinions on poetry.

First Tier: Moore, Bishop, Williams, Hughes, and Brooks deserve to be taken seriously in any context. Moore and Bishop were of the foremost American Women Poets of their time, Moore’s use of rhythm is both surprising and whimsical, and her use of metaphor is quite eccentric as well. I cite “the Fish” for example. Bishop was equally if not more brilliant than Moore, she creates entire dimensions in her verse that transport the reader. I cite “the Armadillo” and “the Waiting Room” for support. Hughes and Brooks, although not as ambitious as the former two, were seminal poets of the Harlem renaissance and showed a mastery of rhythm and the art of simple, but evocative verse. Williams is a boon to the American tradition for mastering imagism and still keeping an alluring mysticism throughout his work.

2nd Tier: H.D is here but Williams is mocked? This is an embarrassment on the chart conductor’s part. Williams took that style much further than she, although she was certainly quite adept. They ought to both be in this rank. Dickinson should be much higher, she is better than the majority of the poets listed here and this is hardly uncommon opinion. She is both accessible and genius, it’s an insult to pair her with Poe.

3rd: Emerson, really? Even he knew he was a better essayist than poet, and so should most. He was sweet and dainty as a poet, but in the same category as Byron and Shelley? Give me a break.

4th & 5th tier: : I get the impression he thinks poetry is only good if it’s from centuries ago.

6th: This has to be the most embarrassing. Crane is my favorite poet and I know he shouldn’t be ranked this highly for anything. I imagine he chose these guys because they’re all “dense”, but opaqueness doesn’t mean good. Spenser isn’t better than Shakespeare or Chaucer. Crane isn’t better than Eliot. Ashbury is just a weird choice period but if he chooses based on what I think he does then I guess I get it. Pound? Seriously? It’s all style and if there’s any substance, it’s obfuscated to the point of unworthiness to deem “amazing poetry”. Yeats is better than Pound, as is Dickinson, even Whitman.

This chart should be burned.

There's a lot of great poetry out there to cover, it isn't as simple as "read poetry 101 anthology and that's it", but pic related may be a good starting place.
Start with tier 2/3.

Fuck it, I got tired of waiting. This one's on me, Anon. Also, Pound is way too high/low on this list. I like him, but he doesn't belong up/down there.
