I'm the definition of a deracinated amerimutt. If I didn't have blue eyes I'd assume I was mixed. My last name is just two English words, but it's the kind of thing that was probably either given to the sharecroppers or something they switched it to when they were hiding from the cops and/or the IRS.
I've always had a gaping hole where a person's cultural identity should be, and always wondered what it must be like to have one. What's it like to have a people? A language and traditions and foods and holidays that are yours and always have been? I wish I could know.
