why would the apple lose it's color and shape by degrees? This just doesn't seem accurate.
When i imagine an apple i grasp a particular apple i have looked at some time in the past. It's basically an image from a memory that i bring up in my mind.
And there is no reason to close your eyes, you are not literally seeing an apple behind your eyelids. You are not seeing anything actually.

Should I give up anime? Like western cartoons are objectively evil, they promote egalitarian ugliness and subjectivity and the destruction of meaning. Anime does the opposite of that. But anime has baggage, but I need some art that is fulfilling in some sense.

Any books on modern aesthetics and perhaps breaking down different art styles each culture uses?

Which authors address this? I am specifically thinking of the Christian/Catholic tradition. I'm interested in how moderns have been convinced that sin is good, and goodness or wholesome suffering is to be avoided.
