Nabokov liked strong experiential descriptions and didn't care for plot tension since he re-read everything five times anyway.
There's no overlap between Dostoyevsky's strengths and Nabokov's tastes.

The first time I read Ada I was prepared to receive the Texture of Time as metaphysics and found it worthless to the extent it was comprehensible at all. Second time through I took it as purely a qualic description a la pic related (though abstract and elaborate) and that worked way better.
Do I need to dig deeper?

He had unusual priorities.
Are Gregor Samsa's species and the layout of his room important? Nabokov tried his best to pin them down, I think because of his focus on experience (pic related). But not everyone cares.
If you care about different aspects you'll appreciate different works.
