Hey /lit/,
I was wondering if you'd critique a little bit of my writing, or at least give a first impression.
A couple nights ago I had woken up in the middle of the night with a weird sense of manic euphoria. In the midst of it, I sat down and wrote the following piece of creative writing. I wouldn't exactly call it poetry, but it certainly is something.
This is my first time writing something of this sort, and was hoping you guys could give me some honest feedback (it's probably trash, and I 'd like to know if it is). Thanks!

There is a lamp upon my wall that shines with
the intensity of a clock's bright click. And oh -
what a click! - that can only be heard when the
light's turned off.
Tick tock, tick tock,
Fancy that, man may find his shadow not in the
figure that has obscured his light, but rather
in the light that has obscured figure.
Oh, what a light! Oh, what a click!
There lies a truth behind my that cannot be
in between the lines, a truth that creeps out
in the little hours of night, within the dark
crevices of the mind that bide by no logic
or reason.
madness. tick tock, tick tock
And so suddenly I realize that there is more to
be seen with the eyes closed. When you stop
to listen; and then stop listening, you'll find
there is more than just a second beneath each
tick, whole universes beyond each tock.
tick tock, tick tock
Remember yourself. Better men than you have
spent their entire future thinking of the infinite
past, and time waits for no man, save perhaps
a shadow.
Rickety Tickity Tock

Also, have any of you ever woken up in the middle of the night and felt the need to write gibberish?

I wish my library didn't have such shit fiction.

Any recommendations on somewhat mainstream novels written with soft philosophical undertones that you'd be guaranteed to see at your standard shit-tier library?

Too poor for amazon or barnes and noble; no used book store in the area
thanks

I need a senior quote, and am trying to go with a literature quote. I was thinking something faulkner.

Any suggestions?

I went to Barnes and Noble today, expecting the worst.
As I perused what undoubtedly was the most tasteless collection of books I've ever seen, my soul wept with the flood gates of a thousand rivers, for everything is ridiculously overpriced.
After picking up a soft cover novella priced a generous fifteen dollars, I shed one last tear for the death of literature, and made my way for exit.
But out of the corner of my eye, did I spy something peculiar; there, on the ground near the clearance table were a stack of several mammoth hardcover books!
>I got the complete works of Mark Twain and Shakespeare (1100+ pages and hardcover) for eight dollars.
Goddamn, I love cheap books.
