All kidding aside, there are some islands of urbanized intellectuals, at least in North Carolina. You ever heard of Chapel Hill, Asheville, Durham, the Triangle? Although these places, especially Chapel Hill and Asheville are also beacons of almost Seattle-like "progressivism" and youthful wokeists waving the white flag too. We also got Duke University and shit. Hell, RTP is like the Silicon Valley of the Mid-Atlantic. NC is a very strange mix and clash of cultures and lifestyles, and it draws a lot of smart people to it, probably not like New England though. South Carolina however, that's another story. I love SC but it's a completely different beast and you can definitely feel the shiftings and murmurings of the Old South a lot more down there I think.

Actually let me ask, have you been through the Carolinas before? Either one of them?
