not just a /tv/ meme. Legitimatly a great series of books. O'Brian is one of the best prose stylists of the 20th century.

First book is ok, but it only really gets going in Post Captain.

Settled down to read the Aubery-Maturin series after my bf loaned me the first one.

Honestly I'm finding it more than a bit baffling, a lot of the scenes go heavily into the naval aspect, and there are almost no female characters who arent heavily sexualized.

In addition the central friendship makes no sense, they go from almost dueling to being at sea? And why the music?

I can read entire chapters and dont understand a little bit

Should I keep reading?
