Watch the series, cars are actually a recurring motif.

Also Utena is pretty great. I would recommend it.

The show features commentary on (and references to) existing works, including — but not limited to — Rose of Versailles, Carl Jung, Sigmund Freud, the House of Borgia, Paradise Lost, William Shakespeare, Cicero, Ovid's Metamorphoses, multi-episode obscure visual references to Manet, and numerous nods to the existentialist German war novel Demian. Underneath these themes, Utena tells a coming-of-age story that explores a curious notion: can someone stick to childish ideals in order to defeat an opponent who practically embodies adulthood?
