I could argue that NEET's often finance their lifestyle on the backs of their families and the government to society's collective detriment, but to be honest, that's not my issue and it's too abstract for me to claim it's really all that huge of a dent.

It's just that I know not every NEETs is a grubby neckbeard or socially maladjusted person. Some may be people who, due to accidentally falling into the lifestyle at some point in the past, don't recognize what they may be missing out on, and gently reminding them could encourage them to change their lives positively if that resonates with them.

Absolute worst case scenario, a NEET finds that he was right, the working world was not for him, and he returns back to doing what he was doing before with a little more pocket change saved up. In the best case, someone changes their life path in a way that they consider positive going forward.

Judging seriousness by contemplation is probably a bad idea: I think actions speak louder than words.

I have no problem saying I didn't consider his threat to be a serious one. I also don't consider how I acted to be taking his threat seriously, since I very literally did nothing. I don't believe that if a serious and unserious response to a suicide threat are indistinguishable, that they are any different.

Two years of watching him lie and attempt to manipulate me left me in a position where I was fairly sure (admittedly not 100% sure) that he wasn't actually going to kill himself.

At any rate, I was right: his threats were fake. He continues to message me to this day, despite continual whack-a-mole blocking. He recently enrolled in a summer class I was taking, so I intend to file a restraining order soon.

This generation, and a new one.

Yearning for something you literally can't ever have is like being sad that you don't have three penises: It's silly and kind of juvenile.

Being part of a new artistic movement would be best; newcomers make buku bucks, can honestly state that they're original, and make a name for themselves. I suppose wanting to experience that in another era is grand, but that just falls back into the previous point.
