/lit/'s thoughts on House of Leaves? (saw somebody mention it in another post)

Saw this at the bookstore and flipped through it; the experimental nature of the book seemed interesting but also irritating (those near-empty fucking pages). Is it worth the price and time or is it actually a pretentious piece of shit?

What does /lit/ think of House of Leaves? I just bought it (full colour edition) and have no clue what to expect of it. Anything I should know before I start?

Finished this a few weeks ago, and I've got some ideas about it.

Johnny was Zampano's younger self (p503-4 and 550; the Whalestoe and the house are described in the same ways).

The house was based on the Whalestoe (see above).

Karen was based on Zampano/Johnny's mom (early in the book, Karen's behavior of practicing her smile in the mirror is outlined; in the letters from Johnny's mom to Johnny, his mom mentions doing the same thing (p615).

IIRC, it is stated that "Zampano" isn't Zampano's real name, which could mean that Zampano really is Johnny "Truant"

If Johnny is Zampano, then our understanding Zampano's loss of sanity goes through the roof.

In a different vein, did anyone else love the stuff about snails from 399-402?

I'm going on a trip later this week and I want to load my Kindle up before hand. What I'm looking for is books in the same style as House of Leaves or World War Z, as in books that are written as sort of survival logs. In film they're called Found Footage and like in film they're almost universally awful but I love the fuck out of them. Wondering if anyone had any recommendations or could point in the direction of some keywords that I could use to find some on Amazon, I already checked the board and recommended literature sites and it wasn't much help in narrowing it down any. So far the only one I found was a Primarius One which I saw some autist talking about but I need heaps more.

Yes I know these are simple books, don't hate. Also general House of Leaves thread, I guess. I would freaking love that to see that made into an awful movie.

what do you guys think of house of leaves? I've been reading it and enjoying it quite a bit. I feel like it's really good but I'd love to hear other's opinions, I'm not well versed in literature and my artistic intake is mostly musical, but i'm looking to read more. What'd be some other cool stuff like this?

I'm 60 pages through pic related. All of Zampano's talk about echos has increasingly bogged down the pace, and so far, Johnny Truant's slow descent into madness has done nothing for me.

Does this book get better? Flipping forward a hundred or so pages, I can see where the form goes crazy, but I haven't yet read that far. Is the payoff worth it?
