That is a very interesting critique. Do you think Atwood is self-aware in some of those themes, or just unconsciously expressing them?

I have wondered myself whether a lot of female political involvement is actually a cynical maneuver to gain a slightly more privileged position over other women after a power shift. There are the obvious Serena-like ultra-conservative women who could make their own subjugation work for them. Then there are intersectional feminists making alliances with every minority group they can, including transsexuals and radical Islam. Are these two groups so different, or are they just betting on different sides to win?

Your point on #metoo reminds me of literal witch-hunting cultures. There is always an ulterior motive, with witchcraft being an official justification. Whether you're in a progressive feminist culture or a conservative religious one, the same behavior is manifest. Maybe it's just part of the human condition.
