are you OP? did you make this thread with the explicit aim of creating a shitfest so you could then show up and pull this "and now: real cultural marxism" presentation?

>But ultimately you only tie your identity in these things. You're saying "I'm a literature enthusiast" or "I'm a movie buff"
and at that point you run the risk of turning it into a part of your image, and pursuing things to show others that you are pursuing them, rather than for their own sake, at which point a lot of people stagnate. They've established an identity, and they decide to stick with it for the sake of creating a consistent narrative of who they are. I get that. However, I would disagree that those of us who are open to change shouldn't think too deeply about our identity, because
>These things go in flux and we end up with ship of Theseus problem.

I would argue that that 'paradox' has a fairly simple solution. The thing that is constant about us, and about life in general for that matter, is change. From the moment we begin to live, we change through the force of our inner mechanisms and choices, and only cease to do so when we die. I don't think it's relevant whether or not the 'matter' of our body or the beliefs that we hold are fully replaced several times over in that time. We are living beings, what makes us who we are is our ability to change. A wise man is open to new ideas and willing to consider new perspectives until the end of his life.

Welp. I thought you were talking about accepting that the world is the way it is, and how there's no point trying to go against it. There wouldn't even have been an argument, if I had realized that what you meant by 'accepting reality' all this time was just 'not closing your eyes to the truth'.

My bad I guess.

Hey /lit/.
I have a habit of writing down ideas whenever they come to me, and there are papers lying around all over my house as a result. How do you organize your thoughts? Folders? Pinwalls? Whiteboards? Or do you use a program of some sort?
