That literally means more people read. Is our society less literate /capita? Yes. But so what, literary culture lives on.

No but it doesn't matter, it's still easier for obscure authors to publish their niche writings than ever before. It's still easier for the intelligent and underrated author who have important things to say (which btw is a much smaller group than people who think they're intelligent and have important things to say) to publish than ever before.
