Thoughts on this book so far:
While the idea that all of these cultures Wade highlights are all unique and wonderful and worth preserving in one form or another, I find it sad that Wade has never ventured into the culture of, say, Vancouver's downtown eastside, or the wandering shopping-cart caravans of Nanaimo, why doesn't he step into their world and catalogue new words and ways of living that we can't even imagine? The great Canadian shanty town lifestyle has hardly a single scholar on the case, while pacific islanders that trade tortoise testicles are somehow so much more noble and worthy of recognition.

Any good books about novelists?

Either about the lifestyle, the routines writers had to get work done, or the challenges of fame.

King's book on writing, for me, fell flat. His advice on how to write better sentences felt cheap, like he pulled it out of his jacket pocket, lint and all. Also felt like he was too established at that point, and just wrote an advice book to sniff his own farts.
