Why is this never talked about? Honestly I think its a brilliant piece and certainly doesn't get the praise traditional poets do.

yeah i love reading poetry

What do you think of popular contemporary poetry? The poetry usually featured in places like button poetry or have black and white pictures plastered over tumblr?

I like some poems by these people and some poets.
However, I cannot help but see the majority of this current scene as superficial psuedo-tortured souls with a victim complex. Don't get me started on the fact most of the poetry is poorly written and could pass as a ventful twitter post.

I think all forms of poetry can be valid because it is a free artform, but i cannot help but see a lot of contemporary poetry as superficial. I do not believe anyone can objectively define what poetry is.

I do believe, though, poetry should take more effort, thought, introspection, and analysis of the world than typing out seven words, putting them all in lower case to make it seem deep and down-to-earth, then slapping something about social justice on the side. It almost seems commercial.

Side note: "rawness" is not the epitome of good poetry.
